Buying a Kitchen Table Set

Think a kitchen table set is less important than whatever living room furniture you choose to put in your living room?  If you're like most people, you might suspect this.  After all, that leather sofa costs so much more than most of the kitchen table sets on the market.  But when you consider that the kitchen is the most oft used room in most households, you come to realize that the sofa might get only a fraction of the use the kitchen table will.  It's breakfast at the table, dinner at the table, and doing bills or homework at the table.  What does the sofa get?  A bit of sitting and TV watching, perhaps.  Certainly nothing special unless that rare valuable program or movie is on the screen.  It makes sense, then, that we should perhaps assign more importance to the kitchen table, the piece of furniture we will probably have the most active use for. 

One of the cool things about kitchen tables and chairs is that you can get a decent cheap kitchen table set and not have it break on you after a few months of use! Some sets can be had for as low as around $150, and while these are not of premium quality, they can be just fine as tables. Cheaper models often consist of a small kitchen table set done in pine, and these are likely to be the picture of simplicity. Pine is cheaper because it is softer than most hardwoods and is apt to get dented and knicked. For that reason, it's not the ideal material for table tops. For those that don't mind taking their kitchen table top taking on light cosmetic damage with use, however, this is not a big issue. You could always use a tablecloth if this is a concern, too.

For small kitchens, getting either a corner kitchen table set or a glass kitchen table set can be a way to make use of valuable space.  A glass kitchen table set might merely provide the illusion of more space, however, whereas a corner table set will actually use space more efficiently.  These setups usually place benches against the wall, and the wider benches will generally sit more people that individual chairs.  At the same time, because everything is pushed up against the wall, the center of the kitchen remains more open.  A corner kitchen table set will also be cozier in feel and can be great for family time.
