For chairs that will be in use for a long time, get the metal kind! They cost less than $30 in some cases for a single chair and are often sold in groups of 4, which can cost as low as around $90. These chairs are not really recommended for outdoor metal chairs if you need something that can be left outside. The joints are more susceptible to rusting and are sure to leave the chair unfunctional after a period of time. For outdoor metal chairs, there are many choices including lawn chairs and more, recently (again), vintage metal chairs. Vintage can mean many things, but in this case it usually refers to retro metal chairs from the 1950s. People are choosing these chairs without much regard to the kitsch factor, and in some cases are doing it as a celebration of kitsch. Aesthetic preferences aside, the vintage chairs are rather well made and they can add color to an outdoor area- plain white furniture can get a little boring, depending on the yard. With outdoor metal furniture, you have to look out for corrosion and rust. It is possible to repaint metal chairs that have had the paint flake off. You'll want to take the rust off in most cases, and spraying the paint on will leave a more professional looking finish than using a brush. Corrosion resistant paints are usually used for this purpose. Where can you find metal chairs for sale? For folding chairs, look in larger supermarkets or office furniture stores. You may be able to find them at a used office furniture store online, as well. Other online stores also sell them, but consider that shipping may be quite costly if you need to get a lot of chairs. Vintage chairs are most likely to be found online unless you are lucky enough to live near one.
