The Rocking Chair Rocks!

If time is money, as they say, then owning a rocking chair can show that a person either has enough money to be able to spend some time doing nothing but rocking and relaxing, or that a person doesn't really care too much about money. Either condition may be desirable, depending on the person, but one thing is clear: the rocking chair is all about taking it easy. At the same time, rocking chairs promote a different sort of relaxation than the kind that reclining chairs like La-Z-Boys were designed for. That kind of relaxing might just as accurately be called "lazing", because in such chairs the user tends to be in as passive a position as is possible. Not so for the rocking chair, where good posture is still encouraged and the sitter is actively engaged while at the same time in a state of ease. It's an engaged relaxation which is much more meditative than it is lazy, and it's a shame that more people don't realize this difference. If they did, perhaps every house would contain a rocking chair.

From Cradle to Rocking Chair

We've already mentioned one of the major reasons people love rocking chairs- the supreme, active relaxation they offer.  There are other reasons to get a rocking chair which are just as good, however, and it doesn't take a custom rocking chair to alternate between uses.  The same common rocking chair can be used for all applications.  Many people buy rocking chairs for nursery use, and new parents unaware of this use for rockers might wish to give this some thought.  With the exception of the lucky, parents of a new baby will have to deal with a fair share of baby crying episodes.  The general strategy is to pick up baby and walk around, perhaps swaying back and forth in the hopes that the motion will help to calm the baby.  This can get old if baby needs to comforted a lot, or if baby starts crying again the minute he/she is placed back in the crib.  It's true that a crib can rock, but this has to be done manually in most cases and many babies seem to prefer being held to being in a crib.  A rocking chair is perfect because it doesn't require you to be on your feet.  Instead, it is possible to sit and rock.  A rocker thus offers the best of both worlds- baby can get held while mommy or daddy can take a break at the same time.  Since there's also the option to get rocking chair cushions to make a rocker extra comfy, getting baby to stop crying can be much less stressful than it could be.  Everybody wins.
Outdoor rocking chairs can really be great for spending time outdoors in nice weather, baby or no.  Rocking in a wooden rocking chair and taking in the fresh air is something that anyone can appreciate, perhaps even moreso when it provides a chance to do so with baby.  In summary, the humble rocking chair can do much to improve your quality of life.
